When Life Gives you Lemons…

I am currently travelling the world. What’s their to complain about? Well whether you’re working a 9-5 job, have children, study at university or are travelling the world, problems are bound to arise.

This week i have struggled a little bit to stay positive and that’s okay. Good and bad things are apart of life – i reminded myself this.

Now here is the problem, I woke up and as usual the first thing i did was reach for my phone. My five year old iPhone 6, my beloved phone. However, on this morning, i saw nothing but pink and yellow stripes down the entire screen. I hadn’t even dropped it, i used it perfectly the night before and now this – a first world horror… The prospect of having to spend money on something other then travel or food left me feeling angry and deflated. So i began searching for my next iPhone. Now here is where things went even more financially pear shaped… Italy charges a very high import tax, great, just great! I know this is such a small problem in the big scheme of things but in my little world it was like a meteor hitting.

So now i have $940 dollars less to spend on travelling the world. However, there is a positive, I have a new phone (it hasn’t arrived yet) and it was no doubt time for an upgrade.

Maybe this story to you is a story of a spoilt little brat who was/is sad about buying a new phone. BUT i hope you can take something from it:

  1. Always have a small amount of money saved for emergencies. In life you really never know what is going to be thrown at you. I strongly advise you to have some cushioning to lessen the impact.
  2. Choose quality over quantity. It is very beneficial to invest in more expensive items that will last the test of time. I also apply “quality over quantity” to things like, choosing to buy a plane ticket rather then fast fashion items that only last one season – priorities.
  3. When life gives you lemons, throw them back. No but really!! There is a solution for almost everything, never accept bad circumstances, always work towards success.

This week really tested not only my mind set but also my bank account. These things happen, this is life.

– Keep living on now time – Abs.
